Privacy policy

This is the whole policy, in plain English. It covers the Bookplate website (this site) and the Bookplate app.

The app: your reading data never reaches us

The Bookplate app stores your saved articles, stars, and settings in your browser's own storage, on your device. There are no accounts. We run no database of user libraries and have no ability to see, read, or recover what you save. Deleting the app's site data from your browser deletes your library (export it first); the Export button gives you a full copy at any time.

When you save a link, the app fetches the article via public retrieval services (currently allorigins.win, corsproxy.io and r.jina.ai) so it can be read in the app. The URL you're saving is sent to those services for that fetch, as it would be to any website you visit. No other data goes with it.

Email: we don't collect any

There are no signup forms, no newsletters, and no email collection anywhere on this site or in the app.

Hosting and fonts

This site is hosted on Netlify, which — like all web hosts — processes standard server logs (IP address, pages requested) to deliver the site. Pages load typefaces from Google Fonts, which involves your browser requesting font files from Google's servers.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own. The app keeps your library and settings in your browser's local storage on your device — that isn't a cookie and never leaves your device. The only cookies that may ever appear are from advertising, described below.

Advertising and cookies

Pages on this website, and a single ad slot inside the app, may display advertising served by Google AdSense. The in-app ad is shown only while you are online and never has access to your saved library. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads where permitted. You can read how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and control ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com. Where required by your local law, ads are shown in line with the applicable consent rules.

The app contains no analytics or tracking of any kind, and its one ad slot only loads while you are online. Your saved articles are never sent anywhere.

Analytics

We do not run analytics or tracking scripts of our own on the site or in the app.

Children

The site and app are general-audience tools and don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
