Bookplate

A reading library you keep.

THIS LIBRARY BELONGS TOyou.

Save any article. Read it offline, clutter-free. It lives on your device — no account, always free.

NO APP STORE — INSTALLS STRAIGHT FROM THE BROWSER

Put it on your phone

Bookplate installs straight from your browser and then works like a normal app — home-screen icon, full screen, offline. No App Store, no download, 10 seconds.

📱

iPhone & iPad

  1. Open bookplate.tech/app in Safari (must be Safari)
  2. Tap the Share button ⬆️ at the bottom
  3. Scroll down, tap Add to Home Screen
  4. Tap Add — the chest icon appears on your home screen
🤖

Android

  1. Open bookplate.tech/app in Chrome
  2. Tap the menu (top right)
  3. Tap Install app (or Add to Home screen)
  4. Confirm — done
💻

Mac & Windows

  1. Open bookplate.tech/app in Chrome or Edge
  2. Click the install icon ⊕ in the address bar (right side)
  3. Click Install
  4. It opens in its own window like an app

Why no App Store? The same reason nothing can shut Bookplate down: it runs entirely in your browser, on your device, with no gatekeeper who can pull it or change the rules. Installing is optional — it works the same in any browser tab, and just adds the icon and full-screen feel.

How your library works
Plain facts

The honest version, so you know exactly what you’re getting:

Your library is stored on your device. Saved articles live in your browser’s own storage, on the phone or computer you’re using. Nothing is uploaded to us — we run no account system and cannot see your library.
“Offline” means already-saved articles. Anything you’ve saved reads with no connection. Saving a new article does need internet, because it has to fetch that article’s text.
Because it’s on your device, you’re in charge of it. Clearing your browser data, uninstalling, or switching to a new phone can remove your local library. There’s no cloud copy on our end to restore from — which is exactly why we built in a one-tap Export. Back up now and then, and you’ll always have a permanent file.
Some sites can’t be saved. Pages behind a login or block (Reddit, Facebook, X, paywalled news) often won’t fetch cleanly. For those, paste the text in by hand or read the original.
It’s free, and supported by ads. The website and a single in-app slot show advertising (only while you’re online). Your saved library is never used for ads and never leaves your device.

Full details in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. Bookplate is provided “as is”; keep your own backups of anything important to you.

Records & enquiries
Where does my library actually live?

On your device, in your browser's own storage. No accounts, no database — we couldn't read your saves if we wanted to. Export gives you the whole library as a file.

What happens if Bookplate disappears?

The app keeps working — it runs on your device, and your export file works forever. Nothing depends on us existing.

Can I bring my Pocket saves over?

Yes — open the app, tap ⚙ Settings → Import, and choose your Pocket export file. Every link comes across in one go, original save dates kept.

Is Bookplate really free?

Yes — the app is always free and unlimited, with no account. It's supported by ads on this website and a small ad inside the app that only appears while you're online. Your saved library is always private and on your device.
